Jose Cortes-Briones, PhD

Dr. Jose Cortes-Briones is the Co-Founder and Head of Science of Wavelet Medical and a neuroscientist specializing in digital signal processing and AI-driven brain monitoring technologies. He also serves as an Assistant Professor Adjunct at Yale University, where he collaborates and provides advice on the application of advanced signal processing and artificial intelligence methods to interrogate the brain.

Dr. Cortes-Briones has dedicated his career to developing technologies capable of extracting clinically meaningful information from electrophysiological signals using electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG). His work bridges academic research and real-world clinical application, transforming sophisticated signal reconstruction techniques into actionable diagnostic tools. He is the architect of Wavelet’s proprietary AI algorithms, which reconstruct fetal brain signals non-invasively through the maternal abdomen and translate them into quantitative markers of neurological distress.

At Wavelet, Dr. Cortes-Briones leads scientific development and innovation as the company establishes direct fetal brain measurement as a new biomarker in obstetrics, enabling a shift from indirect heart-rate monitoring to precise, brain-based assessment during labor.
